After a very busy week, I savored the good weather and took Sunday to enjoy my apartment. It quickly turned into a DIY kinda day, crafting an herb garden out of our breakfast scraps, finding some plants new homes and patching together a basket made of fabric scraps.
Inspired by a recycling article I read on BHG.com, I decided to put some of my fabric scraps to good use. To make a recycled basket:
Materials:
-Fabric, cut into 1'' strips
-Cotton rope
-Needle
-Thread
Tightly wrap fabric strips around rope. The tighter the spacing, the more fabric you'll need. I placed a little stitch in each time I moved to the next fabric strip. Coil your rope up from the center, stitching each layer to each other. Guide your layers upward as you coil to shape it into a bowl. Bunch a little space between stitches to create handles.
I'm very pleased with my little basket. I think I may apply the same technique to some old t-shirts and make a rug!
Ok, so I'm a dork, and it took me 20 years to notice the fact that Martha Stewart and I have the same initials, but hey, it was a relaxing Sunday for me! Of course, mojitos made things a little more exciting.
